CHWR Award Nominations

The Conference on the History of Women Religious seeks nominations for its three awards. Recipients will be announced at the banquet of the Thirteenth Triennial Conference on the History of Women Religious: Lives and Archives, scheduled for June 22–25, 2025, at the University of Notre Dame. Nominations should be submitted no later than February 1, 2025, using the forms linked below.

Distinguished Book

Nominations for this award may be made by mailing one hard copy of the book to the Cushwa Center for the Study of American Catholicism, 407 Geddes Hall, Notre Dame, IN 46556, in addition to submitting the nomination form linked below, including a brief statement on the book’s significance for the study of women religious. Books published between January 1, 2022, and December 31, 2024, are eligible for consideration.

Distinguished Scholar

Nominations should include specific testimony (up to 500 words) concerning the nominee’s contributions to the study of Catholic vowed women (this may include teaching, publications, and special projects advancing knowledge and understanding of women religious through history, sociology, and other disciplines).

Lifetime Achievement

Nominations should include specific testimony (up to 500 words) concerning the nominee’s merits as a scholar and/or promoter of the study of women religious (relevant activities may include teaching, scholarship, and professional experience in archives or libraries). Researchers as well as archivists are eligible for this award. Note that this award is not offered on a regular basis and is reserved for those with a demonstrated, significant record of dedication to the study of women religious in a way that has proven formative for the field.
